TITANS Training
The club has several coaches who have attained level 1 qualification with the Australian Track & Field Coaches Association with one coach having attained level 2 qualification.
The club intends to have 2 qualified coaches in attendance at most times. It is essential however that we have parental help at all sessions.
Club training sessions are open to anyone trying out athletics [2 free sessions only due to insurance and State organisation rules] or are members of the Club. We will coach all levels and abilities of athlete. Extra training sessions may be available as the season progresses, any athlete willing to put in that little bit extra is most welcome.
Club Training Days Monday and Wednesday Training venue Langford Sports Complex [Athletic Oval] Wingrove Rd Langford Pre season training starts Monday 7th September 2009
Training Times 5.00-6:30
It is the parents’ responsibility to advise the coaches if their child is not to do certain
types of activities or is injured. A doctor’s note for the injury or medical condition detailing the restricted activities would be beneficial.
Cancelling training Training will not be held if it is raining heavily or persistently or lightning is close by. Light or intermitent rain will not stop training.
If it is hot training will be light and held in the shade where possible. NB. Saturday competitions are not cancelled due to the temperature.
Clothing Please wear appropriate clothing for the days temperature. Shoes are compulsory at all training sessions. Shorts are prefered and recommended over skirts. Please no shorts longer than just above the knee as they interfere with training certain events.
Hydration All athletes should attend training sessions with their own water bottle. Remember it is a health risk to share water bottles.
The Athlete and the Sun Exposure to the sun’s UV rays can be harmful and can cause skin cancer. While it is desirable to avoid the sun between 10:00am & 2:00pm athletics is one of those sports that finds it impossible to do this. Even training in the late afternoon can cause sunburn. We prefer that all athletes and parent helpers should wear a hat and sunscreen both at training and competition. Please drink plenty of fluids and use shade as much as possible to avoid dehydrating. Remember * Slip on a shirt * Slop on some sunscreen * Slap on a hat * Wrap on some UV resistant sunnies * Use shade wherever possible * Drink fluids regularly even when not thirsty * Wear tightly woven (UV resistant) clothes that cover the shoulders
Code of Safety for training and competition • Spiked shoes are to be carried to and from the event or training site and then they can be worn. After the event or training session they are to be removed immediately. • Javelins are to be carried vertically only. • Never throw an implement without the coach or official watching. • Never run with a javelin EXCEPT as part of your turn to run up and throw. • Shot puts are not large marbles they are not to be played with. • The running track is only for running on or lining up for your turn and to do drill work; keep off the track the rest of the time. • At training we may share our track with senior athletes, keep out of the lanes reserved for them. • Hurdles, javelin, high jump and triple jump are to be practiced strictly under adult supervision. • Never jump a hurdle the wrong direction, it won’t tip over properly if you hit it and you might get hurt. • Hats and sunscreen must be used both at training and competition. • A personal water bottle is essential to avoid dehydration at both training and competition, due to the chances of meningococcal disease this bottle should never be shared.
The code of safety is for everyone’s safety. Athletes disregarding the code of safety can be disqualified from events or may face time out at training
